Belgium again
Hi everyone!
Just over a week ago I took over Riko's CB1100 EX, whom you could follow back in 2015, while he was putting on some interesting unique mod's to this beautiful bike.
My part of the story with this gem will less be about modifying the bike, though Watson CB1100 from Aalst/BE also triggered some very nice modifications to his new 2017 version.
I guess my story might be more about how I will take the bike on my continued travels.
I'm a late blossomer, as far as motorcycling is concerned.
Up until some years ago, I was much more into driving oldtimer cars (old Saab 90/900's, an old Audi 80, or a fantastic wicked MB280CE), and only 5 years ago, at the age of 37, I started my first rides on an old but very well preserved Honda CM125 Custom. I drove a 15K kms with this bike for little over half a year (could do that with my car licence within Belgium's borders), and then got my A-licence (unlimited) in only 14 days, after which I purchased my first 'real' bike in February 2014 to begin my motorcycle adventure: a big red Honda CB Seven Fifty (F2) from 1993 (in US = Nighthawk), together with almost exactly a twin version from 1992 (for parts).
Over a period of 3,5 years I took the bike on numerous lenghty and crazy trips across Europe (I use it both for work and leisure, often (ideally!) combined), until mid March 2018, after almost 100K kms, I decided it was time to move over to its bigger sister, the beautiful CB1100 EX (2014 version).
I really enjoyed my CB750, but often being put to the limit on trips on which others would generally use a Honda Africa Twin or similar (due to road conditions or adverse weather conditions in remote areas), I had to admit the CB750 just lacked a little more power, a litte more zest, a little better handling (what an agile bike the CB1100 is!!), so it really made sense for me to start looking for a suitable, performant retro successor in my fleet.
A mutual friend (a very good motor mechanic) brought me into contact with forum member Riko, who was at that time looking for a new, safe and foremost loving home for his CB11, as he had chosen to spend some years on a new type of bike.
We quickly and nicely sealed a good deal for both of us, and the rest is history. Riko is happy his CB11 will be in good hands, I'm very happy with the new upgrade, we live close-by, so hey, we can always sip a nice whiskey and continue to gaze at this jewel, if need be ;-).
I'm now installing the side carriers for my old H&B Junior (40) side cases, and will hopefully soon be able to feed you with nice travel stories, as I'm about to take this beautiful bird on my future trips.
Safe travels, everyone!
and all very best from Ghent, BE

Hey Watson, watch your back, amigo...
I was even born in Oiljst! ;-) (never lived there, though)
We'll catch up for sure on the road some time ahead.
Grtz!
