RE: Low resale value
I can attest to the terrible resale value of the CB. I've had mine on the market on eBay and CL completely farkled for $6795, and it hasn't yielded a bite. (sorry for the F-bomb!) I'm aware of the higher than value price, but figured I'd see if someone bit...nobody has even asked a question.

I got a good deal when I bought it, but still, it's sad to see such lovely bikes valued so low by the market. So, if you need to get rid of it, get rid of it and take your licks.

No more CB, but a GB.
Triumphs and Ducatis.
A Norton, MV, and Morini 175.
Probably others.

RE: Low resale value
holy666diver, reading back through this thread it appears that you received one bit of pertinent advice related to your current needs. I did not even realize that some car lots might take motorcycles as trade-ins. I wish you luck with your current situation and hope that you're able to find a place that has what you need and is willing to work with you.

Life is a balancing act. Some people put everything on hold or save endlessly for a point in time that they never end up getting to enjoy. Everyone has to find their own balance in life, however long that life end up being.

RE: Low resale value
I never bought the bike for resale value. I bought it because I loved the look.

RE: Low resale value
I never buy anything motorized thinking about the resale value but then I generally keep things until they are completely worn out anyway.

RE: Low resale value
I'm starting to. The last few bikes I've bought were used, not new, for this exact reason. New bikes tend to suffer a significant depreciation hit, which is fine if you intend to keep them forever and ride the wheels off 'em, but with five bikes in the garage, mine tend to rack up the years more quickly than they rack up the miles. So, after ten years of ownership, many will only have 30,000-40,000 miles, which isn't a lot. But a ten year old bike is usually only worth a fraction of MSRP, regardless of mileage, so why start in a hole?

Ride more. Worry less. Tongue

Low resale value
Sadly, the resale value is low. Perhaps another look at your needs is in order. If the only reason you want to sell is that it’s hard to fit two car seats in a Civic, perhaps you need to ask yourself if that challenge is greater than the challenge of earning the dollars to pay for the loss on the bike and the cost of the new SUV. If you can get 3-5 more years out of that little car, you might find yourself in a better position to handle a purchase without selling the beloved bike. And that’s really what we here at CB1100 Forum really want for you! Whatever you do, enjoy that family. The years will fly by

RE: Low resale value
When we lived in the UK we were able to fit TWO children's car seats in the back of the original and much smaller real MINI.

I have been thinking of selling the CB but the used price-tags I have been seeing are ridiculously low. I have even seen brand new cbs going for $5999!! I paid $9500 for mine and still owe 4k on it. I can't justify letting it go for less than $6500. Has anyone had luck with trade ins? Part of me wants to keep this bike but we are having trouble fitting two car seats in a civic and can use the money for an SUV.

Local has a new 2014 for 7400
