Ah regulations...
It sounds like it does not apply to us. We should also all think about using some kind of vpn as well which I have on my laptop. The damage that hackers can do and do in fact inflict is considerable so being safe is not such a bad thing in this day and age. Keep us in the loop.

Freedom of choice
I believe I have on occasions detected the attempts to automatically turn URL of this site by the server from http://... to https://...

I do not know where the move to implement SSL protocol for this web-site ended up. However, I respectfully suggest that those of us that, for whatever reason, prefer to access the site as http:// (i.e., not using SSL protocol) should be allowed to do so, i.e., that the connection request to port 80 are not automatically redirected to port 443 (or, whatever else the server does, when to configured force SSL on every connection).

Dumb question, as I know nothing about computers- why would you NOT want to connect to the 'secure' S version?

As I understood the original post it would probably involve costly and time consuming redesign of the websites architecture, so as to make it no longer worth it. guth or anybody could confirm.

It’s not what I meant, the guy above wants the option to connect insecurely as an end-user.

First, many thanks to Guth for creating such a great Forum that has brought enjoyment, information, and fellowship to so many people. Second, I understand Guths concerns, and priorities concerning the health thing. Guth, I hope you beat whatever health issues you are dealing with.

I am by no means any sort of legal expert, but I am wondering if some sort of disclaimer, i.e. "this is a U.S. based and operated social web site with no membership fees, no commercial interests, is not SSL, and membership is at the sole discretion of the member with that understanding". Then follow with a check box indicating that the member releases and holds harmless, the CB1100 Forum from any and all liability associated with patronage and/or membership in the CB1100 Forum.

It would be a sad day indeed, ifs some sort of simple solution could not be found to avoid site shut down, protect Guth from liability, and accomplish the desired result with minimal time and heartburn.

There are other reasons, but the following is, I believe, a reasonable summary of the main ones:

RE: Major changes coming to the CB1100 Forum due to impacts of the EU GDPR
Quote:The organization would have to target a data subject in an EU country. Generic marketing doesn’t count. For example, a Dutch user who Googles and finds an English-language webpage written for U.S. consumers or B2B customers would not be covered under the GDPR. However, if the marketing is in the language of that country and there are references to EU users and customers, then the webpage would be considered targeted marketing and the GDPR will apply.

It doesn't sound like the law has anything to do with this site.

I think you're probably right, postoak, and I suspect Guth has come to that conclusion as the site is still running. rotor's concern seems to me more with the whole idea of being forced by Google and others to use the https protocol to connect to the web.
