I wish I could wear mid-calf boots, but large calves relative to foot size apparently keeps me in ankle-high boots with a calf cut at the back. However I can attest to the WP character of Alpinestars. I've got the New Land GTX boot. I've ridden through some frog chokers and ridden in all-day drizzle and my feet stayed dry.

Those are nice looking. I have a similar pair, but can only wear them when it's hot out because air works it's way up my pants legs when I wear them

RE: New Boots
I'm a Sidi man myself. But I have an older pair of TourMaster boots that have served me fairly well. I have some problems with my little toes so I need a wider boot to actually walk in.

RE: New Boots
Actually Alpinestars WP Roam Boots are tall.
The reason I bought them was to keep the cold wind off my shins.
Keeps the rain off as well.

RE: New Boots
That's why I like a tall boot too Nortoon (and also to keep hot air off my shin when riding the ST on 90 degree days)

The boots shown by Nortoon are almost identical to the boots I have, except mine are nine years old and have inside zippers with Velcro flaps.
In spite of having been zipped and unzipped hundreds of times, the zippers are still in perfect condition, but I take care not to abuse them in the process.
Tall boots for me every time.

Still rockin', rollin', and ridin' after all these years

In the old days of wooden windows you could buy a stick of window wax to make them slide easier. It also worked well on sticky zippers. But those days are gone. Now I use silicon grease to do the same thing. It dries, but the zipper stays slippery.

Which reminds me. I have to treat the rubber seal on my Shoei helmet with the miniscule vile of silicon oil that with it. Given the size of the vile, I guess they don't expect you keep this expensive helmet long.

RE: New Boots
I am usually difficult to fit in motorcycle boots because of my foot width and because I usually fall in between sizes. That said, I fit perfectly in Daytona. Yup those puppies are not cheap, and I cringe when I think about all the other good boots out there I could have had for less, if only they had fit me correctly. Mind you, with Revzillas generous return program, I was able to try several different boots before settling on the Daytonas. Yes, I bit the bullet on the price.

Beyond that it is also a matter of what level of protection any boot will give your feet. Regardless of brand, I would always prefer a CE rated boot. I suppose if protection were not a factor we would all still be wearing our lace up work boots like we did back in the day before all great armored boots became available.
