RE: Thread Drift
Geez, you two! This tragedy is getting worse and worse. I couldn't decide whether to slash my wrists or open another bottle, so I did a bit of a Google search and found that Appolonia didn't really die; she's living secretly with Elvis and Harold Holt (an Australian Prime Minister who went for a swim one day and has never been seen again). Rumour has it they're all learning to ride motorcycles.

I'm just glad I don't have to encounter sweet potatoes in any form or peppermint ice cream for another 11 months.

Cormanus, as to the politician Holt, I’m thinking there is a Great White shark with a bad taste in its mouth somewhere off your coast.

I thought that Harold Holt had been seen riding a BMW R71 knockoff in China in the early 80,s.

Matter of taste, Ole. I'd probably prefer barbecue. Thanks for asking.

RE: Thread Drift
Just for clarification, Cornanus, do you mean that you prefer barbecue sauce to ketchup on a meatloaf, or that you prefer “barbecue” to “BBQ”? If the latter, do you prefer “ketchup” or “catsup” ?

RE: Thread Drift
Nice catch, EmptySea. I meant that I'd prefer barbecue or BBQ sauce on the meatloaf. On the other questions, I don't know what it is that makes me want to spell things out in full when I write. I think it was what I was taught. Either BBQ or barbecue is fine with me, although I would tend to the latter. The second question is more difficult. Australians don't much use the term ketchup. We call the stuff 'tomato sauce' and pronounce it tom-art-oh. It would be acceptable in a meatloaf too. I think I'd go for 'ketchup' although there's a bit of me that likes the slight obscurity of 'catsup'.
