Thread Drift
I'll start off by saying that I'm probably just as guilty of this as anyone else here. But since the subject of thread drift has come up again as it does from time to time, lol, I thought I'd make a suggestion: If we know that something we are about to post is drifting too far off topic, then let's simply try to start a new thread (in the appropriate section of the forum). I'm not exactly sure why this is, but I'll admit to being much more conscious about this when I'm participating on other forums.
On other forums I most often remember to take this approach iwhen someone has mentioned some subject matter that is obviously off-topic within the current thread but it is of interest to me (and it's still appropriate for the forum). Rather than dragging the existing thread further off-topic, I'll go ahead and start a new thread. Sometimes I'll actually think to reference the previous thread either simply by mention or sometimes by linking to it. For example in the recent "forum history / apology thread" that has wandered all over the place (with myself obviously being one of the key instigators of such meandering conversation), when the subject of waterproof gear came up, I should have started a new thread in the Riding Gear section or simply pointed people to an older thread I created earlier regarding my Aerostich suit rather than posting my specific comments.
Like I said, I know that I'm just a guilty of this sort of behavior as anyone else here. That's how in-person conversations work after all. I'm not talking so much about the humorous posts that are interjected throughout threads around this place, but rather when the focus of the conversation truly shifts gears on us such as the example I've given above. The reason I'm asking that we try to do better is that it simply makes more sense when you stop to envision others using this forum as a point of reference later on in time. (Which we don't have the luxury of when it comes to in-person conversations.)
People do have the option of searching by topic only or searching within specific sections only, so starting a new thread in the appropriate section makes sense from that standpoint. (Yes, I realize that some people won't use the search function, but that's besides the point in my mind.) Again, this is nothing more than a suggestion — human nature being what it is and all. Like I often say, at the end of the day this is just an Internet forum. In the overall scheme of things it's obviously not a big deal. But more than likely this forum will continue to see other new folks seeking out information here on a variety of subjects. I'm simply trying to keep in mind the idea of sifting through the contents of this site through their eyes.
Sorry for the lengthy post. If you've read this far then thanks for doing so. I just wanted to make sure that I fully explained my thoughts and reasoning behind posting this, lest anyone think that I'm "upset" when I'm not.

RE: Thread Drift
Thanks for the post, Guth. Do you have an Honda luggage rack, or an aftermarket one, or none at all?

Tent pegs
I’m in the market for some aftermarket titanium tent pegs if anyone has any recommendations.

My coworkers want to know what I'm laughing at. Impossible to explain.

Silly Season, Guth. Silly Season. (Although, isn't July in Australia or something? Shouldn't Cormanus be out racking up miles and pub bills?)

RE: Thread Drift
It is the fault of this forum that I dug out the "Men at Work" collection and started listening again.
Man, that was and is some really good music.
