FALL RIDE VIDEO
January 16th, it's -12C/10F and snowing. I am bored because I can't ride my motorcycle. But while cruising the Internet I came across a video of a bike ride on one of my favourite roads.

It was filmed in fall of 2016 by a member of the Ottawa Valley Touring Club, a club I belonged to in the early 80s. If you have 15 minutes to spare, it is a ride that starts on the South Lavant Road just west of Robertson Lake here in Ontario. At the stop sign it turns south on Snow Road 509 towards Sharbot Lake. These are the type of roads I like to ride, especially in the fall.

I love roads like that and looks like some of our inland roads here.
We do most of our riding along the coasts away from the inland forested areas, but some of our riding is through similar areas away from the traffic and drivers in too much of a hurry.

Still rockin', rollin', and ridin' after all these years

RE: FALL RIDE VIDEO
Reminded me a lot of a section of Michigan's U.P. that I rode as part of my Iron Butt ride last year. Unfortunately, as is the nature of those types of events, I did not have time to fully engage with my surroundings. The video reminded me of how much I missed up there and now I feel compelled to go back, but for more than part of one day.

Thanks.

Hi Rocky i was in Nova Scotia in summer of 1979 at a small village i think called Walton . My father was captain in big cargo ships and that summer he took me with him. I still remember the beautiful nature of your country. Thank you for remind me those good old days.

The UP is a cool place to ride. I've ridden up there multiple times and always look forward to a return trip.

Plan a trip. I'll ride with you. Maybe Glen, Laura, Cheryl, and the elusive Mike G., too. I bet I could get my brother-in-law Tony in on that, too.

All you need to do is pick a date, my friend.

They do look like they are scooting along after the stop sign on Snow Road 509. But having ridden the section of the South Lavant Road west of Robertson Lake: first, second and sometimes third gear at low RMP is the best you can do.

My 2017 EX whines and balks going around Robertson Lake because I have to reign her with first gear. Lots of grumbling and snorting from the mufflers.

Search out Lavant, Ontario on Google Maps. Then move to street view. Turn the little guy with the big pointer around so he goes west around the lake. Every click on the roadway becomes another corner.

Cool Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
We still have many of those small villages like the one you mention and we ride through them every year. With the relatively small population of this province, this is a very unhurried and pleasant place to ride.
