RE: 2018 Motorcycling Resolutions
I resolve to not hit a deer on 2 wheels. Have had so many close calls up here. They breed like rabbits in Wisconsin.

Post: #1New Years Day Ride // Resolutions
Lose weight and ride more in 2018, probably something most of us want to do.
Exercising and pushing back from table wasn’t to bad today, but the 27 degree temperature was tough. With a 45 mile per hour wind chill factor that equated to 10 below zero. If I had those numbers before I started resolution 2 would have been broken!
The leather gloves, chaps, heavy Triumph jacket with throat insulator helped, but I only lasted for 25 minutes. Unseasonably cold this week, should be back in the 50,s by middle of next week .
Vacation time already granted for Berea trip, looking forward to seeing/meeting everyone then.
Looks fast sitting still

RE: 2018 Motorcycling Resolutions
I have thought about this quite a bit and wanted to see how my back was healing before coming up with my list. I'm fairly confident that I will be able to ride this year but I will still be somewhat conservative with my goals.
So with further ado, here are my 2018 Motorcycle Resolutions(read as where, distance round trip, bike I'm taking):
1. Attend CB1100 rally in Kentucky, +/- 5000km, CB1100
2. Laconia Bike Week, +/- 2000km, Buell
3. Trip to Sudbury, ON, +/-3500km, Buell

Great list W/R. Hope it comes off. But be careful with that back, eh? Better to go slow and get it right than rush it and be out of action for longer.

Oh, absolutely. My goals could be a complete pipe dream easily shattered by the first time I actually attempt riding this spring, just have to play it by ear I guess.

If those are your 'conservative' goals, I'll be anxious to see what your more aggressive goals would be. Looking forward to seeing you at the rally!

RE: 2018 Motorcycling Resolutions
I would be a little happier if the rally were later in the summer to work up to it instead of just jumping right into it with both feet but c'est la vie.
Or as is said in the epic movie "Highlander" - "it's better to burn out than fade away" (also a line from Def Leppard's Rock of Ages, from the 1983 smash hit album Pyromania - the 2nd album I ever purchased in my life).
And I look forward to meeting you as well MTC.

RE: 2018 Motorcycling Resolutions
W/R I enjoyed your post. Concise and yet filled with interesting references. I believe that you will have no problem with the trip to Berea. Just break it up in to small segments and if you get there on Wednesday instead of Tuesday, so be it. I know a guy who took passed his MSF class on a Sunday and by the following Tuesday was on a bike on a 2000 mile trip from Chicago to Denver and back. His theory was that there was no better way to learn about riding than by riding. Not sure if I agree with how he went about it and I now that's not the same as coming back from an injury, but if he could take off like that, with no experience at all, I think you should have no problem getting to Berea.

1. To ride at least once per month to continue my streak (currently at 46 months, but with a little luck, it'll be 47 on 1/1)
2. To earn a second Iron Butt certificate, possibly by riding from Chicago to either Colorado or Texas.
3. To attend the 2018 CB1100 rally in either Kentucky or West Virginia
4. To ride 12,000 miles (2017 yielded a tick over 10,000 miles)
5. To obtain a decent 'lanyard' camera.
6. To take more ride photos and to write more ride reports.
Update on Resolution #2 - I am pretty sure that my 2018 Saddle Sore 1000 will be from Chicago to Mason, TN to get us sum Bar-B-Q for lunch from Bozo's Hot Pit (thanks to memphismike for the recommendation) -- maybe taking some to-go, too. Once again, it looks like it will be my brother-in-law and I making the out-and-back trip, 1000 mile trip. I think this should be an easier trip than last year's Lake Michigan Circle Tour, but far less scenic, so the BBQ better be worth the trip. LOL If things go according to plan, this will all happen on June 21st. Stay tuned for more details.

Uh, not meaning to pick nits or anything, but Neil Young wrote those lyrics in the song My My, Hey Hey on the album "Rust Never Sleeps".
