No disagreement to setting it up for your personal preference, but I would be reluctant to give up any acceleration.

100 MPH is only 5,000 RPM in 6th. 5,000 was about 70 on my Moto Guzzi.

When I bought my 2012 Triumph, there was no dealer in Las Vegas and the rear tire size was not readily available, so I ordered one on-line to store in the garage. At about 7,000 miles, I knew I could not keep the bike, so I installed it before one more ride across the Mojave Desert. It was the same "size" by the numbers, but the Shinko was taller than the stock Metzzler. Enough that the new rear tire would not easily rotate on the center stand. I could really feel the difference pulling grades and was not happy. If I only rode on the level, it would have been fine, but the CB1100 is the first bike I have owned that I am not looking for one more gear.

The sweet spot on the CB1100 is 3,000 RPM / 65 MPH in 6th, but it is still quite smooth way beyond that.

Just my 2 cents. Suggest you consider Ben70's comments. BTW I am getting 51. something MPG each tank with stock gearing.

I’ve got a 2013, which is just a 5 speed.

RE: Howdy
I'm going 59 mph at 3000 rpm with 19/37. At 70 about 3500. Just went for a ride yesterday and paying attention to it I was quite happy with it. I found that if I really wanted to twist my wrist and shift later than normal (for me) I had all the acceleration I wanted. I really do like the better mileage, like having a bigger tank!

I am still tempted to do the 37 on the rear. PBI is currently out of stock of the 19, but told me that they’d have more in a few weeks. I think I will start with it and see how I like it.

RE: Howdy
Just two cents - Got a hand written letter from a Japanese engineer Kohama-san who worked on the CB1100 and some of the Honda race bikes. (NS400R, VFR750F, NR750 and CBR900RR) - he said DO NOT change the sprockets on the CB1100. He said they, engineers, did not allow enough clearance to the swingarm and engine case. My Dad was an aeronautical engineer so he always talked about engineered tolerances of one part or another. People have changed them. Honda chose to change the gearbox.
