Interesting that the road and track article argues the 2013-14 run wasn't retro enough, while this review insists that, for those years, it was too retro. It's kinda silly and I'm not sure why any of it matters, I mean, who cares which is or isn't more subjectively retro? In fact, I take back that I said it was interesting, it's not, it's silly, and now I'm firmly in the this is silly camp.

But silly can still be fun, so let's sum-up: spoked wheels? Retro ®. Thats one for 2017. More squared tank ®. That's one for 2014. We're one a piece. Hmmm, incandescent bulbs ®....and speckled, reflective paint ®...that's one each again. Let's see, green background speedo/tach ®... and purposefully rough engine (half-credit for 2017).

So, this list, complied from what I can easily come up with off the top of my head, gives retro advantage (RA) to the 2013-14 run. Hope that helpsCelebrate

It's a little more substantial than that if you look at ferrets list here.

* Spoked wheels with tube type tires
* Different mounting for the discs
* different reflector
* New forks with dual bending valve technology
* new lower triple tree which bolts in the back
* new upper tree which bolts in the back
* new horns with chrome rings
* new chrome headlight bucket
* new chrome instrument cups
* LED headlight
* new faces on instruments
* new mounting position for turn signals in fork ears
* new turn signals
* new mounting position for handlebars
* master cylinders unpainted for brake and clutch
* new slipper clutch
* new fuel tank of seamless design
* new flush style gas cap
* new seat
* new air cleaner covers with chrome stripe
* new triangular brushed aluminum side covers that fit inside frame tubes like the 13's
* new solid looking passenger peg mounting bracket
* new smaller length and diameter mufflers
* new 2 tone paint on cyl head (silver) and cylinders (black)
* new grab rail
* new tail light assy
* new metal chain guard
* new mounting for rear caliper

It all adds up, I really do appreciate the level of chrome and aluminum on mine.

"But, it turns out it was a little too retro and not modern enough to attract many buyers, so Honda stopped importing it (to the US) just two years later."

* Pontificating hat on *

No, Honda misjudged demand and only built (300) of the Deluxe models that buyers wanted, and too many Standard models that few wanted at the asking price. They mistakenly concluded from their 2013 experiences that the US market wanted cheaper and more black.

I would be a CB1100 Deluxe owner right now had they been more available when I was looking to buy a second motorcycle. Supply suddenly dried up and I bought something different.

Note that the 2017 reset does not include a Standard model.

Except in Japan where the standard model with the seemed tank and twin exhausts is on offer.
