And it's greatly appreciated!

Not my intention to put words into anyone's mouth, my bad. I didn't have a clear understanding of what jdvalero actually did for his fix, so I was wondering/assuming that the "innerds" there somewhere had been tinkered with...which is where I would have stopped.

ignition off, disconnect 3 prong TPS connector , inspect, clean it, reconnect...may help if TPS connection was poor, contaminated.... anybody , who rides a motorcycle can do it.

This is what I was looking to confirm! : ) Thanks. I think even with my often limited mechanical skills I can be included with as part of "anybody who rides".

Thanks again,Thumbs Up

NO PROBLEM... thank you for your feedback and notes..

Yes !!! I agree with popgun on trying to adjust it. Just don't!
That connector that goes into (female) is where the problem was. The hole in which the pin from the sensor goes in is what was twisted and came out easily from the connector. That's why when I did that hard run on the Hwy it must of come out of contact.
See the pic below and me pointing with mechanical pencil. The one wire that was giving me the problem was if not mistaken the black one. İmage

Thanks jdvalero for photo and explanation. I may have implied in a post that others had "opened up" or adjusted the TPS when I wasn't really sure what had been done, so there was never going to be any "adjustment" on my part.

But if your fix involving that wire / connector holds and the problem doesn't come back, that's huge. Because 30+ riders on this forum have bikes with very similar, if not exact symptoms. Previous "fixes" tried by many of us, have not panned out, maybe working briefly. Maybe we're getting closer to finding "the culprit", a weak-link in the system so to speak.

Peterbaron, you’ve set out remarkably clearly why it would be a huge mistake for me to fiddle with the TPS. Thank you.

Everybody has skills in different fieldsThumbs Up...is my natural advantage that I have in automotive...actually TPS is very simple = only 3 wires..supply voltage (usually 5V), ground and signal...do not want to go Hi Tech..'cuz some members get upset and have stomach irritation, to cure it = Beer...LOL...
You can always go simple way in this matter::
ignition off, disconnect TPS connector, inspect both sides (female and male pins)... and if OK, clean it, apply conductive enhancement, reconnect, test it.... but this is "a ready" answer, without understanding what is going on..SadHuh
The issue is:: catch erratic idling when engine is at operating temperature by wiggling TPS connector...and THEN go step by step as indicated above or in thread = diagnosis first = fix it right at the first time...don't let strangers dig into you bike...LOL

so what is the final verdict??? did cleaning the TPS sensor connectors ultimately fix the issue for the 30+ forum members with the 1500rpm idle problem or not?

Yes, no, maybe, not sure...not trying to be difficult.
1. There are two issues, high idle at 1500 and low idle at 500. Their cause (and eventual "fix") may not be the same.
2. Likely the 30+ forum members have not all tried the TPS cleaning.
3. Dave and I were dealing mainly with low idle when the TPC cleaning was being discussed.
4. TPS cleaning did not fix his low idle
5. TPS cleaning may have fixed mine--8 rides lasting from 1/2 hour to 2 hours in length did have an effect in that the low idle did not return with the exception of two moments where the idle dipped to 900 then immediately returned to 1000 after shutting engine off and then restarting. At this point I traded mine in for another bike.

Dave has moved on to what may be the culprit for his: IACV.

RE: How To Cure High Idle Issues (possibly)
Have an update... not sure if this will help diagnosis however, now that the weather has been consistently warmer, when I start my bike the idle pops up to 1400RPM and then when I ride it for about 5 minutes drops to 1100RPM--all good. If I run it down the expressway for 15-20 minutes it then idles at 1400RPM again and it's consistent @ 1400 until I let it sit for an hour and then the same pattern all over again.

Disregard---I found a previous post with the exact same issue. IACV replaced and solved.
